I am delighted and truly grateful I found you and your Substack Dana 😍 grounding, inspiring and feeling like I'm finding my people in the midst of these horrible times. Please add me to your Nature of reading group! Nature is my daily grounding practice, along with many of the others you mentioned, and yet my Nature reading has slipped. Smiling as I recall Mary Oliver, Diane Ackerman and other old favorites. I can't wait to discover more with reading buddies!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I would love to join Nature of reading. I need to get out of my norm.
Anxiety and depression and current grieving process. Has somewhat kept me away from people on the outside. I will admit I have enjoyed being on Substack. It has renewed my mind and encouraged my interests. So thank you. I know spend my alone time just reading on here and writing my thoughts on my posts.
Thank you for all of these ideas! I wrote about some coping ideas to deal with morning funk in my latest post. I really find that I need to be deliberate about how I start my days right now.
….. What I’ve been concentrating on in my life is my little community and checking in with my people and starting conversations. I think the words: “I’m checking on you to make sure you are doing OK” are so valuable right now. I had two people reach out to me in a similar way this week, and I burst out crying with each; everyone is struggling, for sure.
I love your penpal idea. I love sending and receiving physical letters and save them all — especially being a but of an amateur historian— but haven’t done this recently. I think I will restart that as a little community project: Letters During a Coup.
Thanks for your post. I am very interested this Nature of Reading book club. It may be just the ground I need. Things move so fast it's hard to slow down long enough to think.
Nature of Reading sounds like a wonderful idea - I don’t know if I can actually read another book club book a month plus 1 of my own choosing (I read slowly) but I’d like to try!
Also, this is yet another wonderful post, I enjoyed and soaked up every sentence and understand how you’re feeling about the world (though am definitely not an introvert).
I’m interested in the Nature of Reading book club.
I’m sending you a DM now!
